Configuring Grading Scales (CGPA, Percentage, Grades)
Set up grading systems — percentage, CGPA, letter grades, or custom scales — to match your education board's requirements.
Configuring Grading Scales
TL;DR: Choose or create a grading scale (percentage, CGPA, letter grades, or custom), define grade boundaries, and EduSuite OS auto-calculates grades from marks.
Built-In Grading Scales
| Scale | Example | Common Usage |
|---|---|---|
| Percentage | 85% | Most Indian boards, general use |
| Letter Grade | A+, A, B+, B, C | CBSE, international schools |
| CGPA (10-point) | 8.5 | CBSE 9-Point Grading |
| GPA (4-point) | 3.7 | International / US-style |
| Custom | Your own scale | Board-specific requirements |
Setting Up a Grading Scale
- Go to Settings → Academics → Grading → + New Scale.
- Name it (e.g., "CBSE 9-Point Grading").
- Define grade boundaries:
Example: CBSE Grading
| Grade | Marks Range | Grade Point | Description |
|---|---|---|---|
| A1 | 91-100 | 10 | Outstanding |
| A2 | 81-90 | 9 | Excellent |
| B1 | 71-80 | 8 | Very Good |
| B2 | 61-70 | 7 | Good |
| C1 | 51-60 | 6 | Above Average |
| C2 | 41-50 | 5 | Average |
| D | 33-40 | 4 | Below Average |
| E (Fail) | 0-32 | 0 | Needs Improvement |
- Set pass grade (minimum grade to pass).
- Click Save.
Assigning Scales to Classes
- Go to Settings → Academics → Grading → Assign.
- Select the grading scale.
- Assign to classes (e.g., CBSE scale for Classes 9-10).
- Different classes can use different scales.
How Grades Calculate
Once configured, grades are automatic:
- Teacher enters raw marks for an exam.
- EduSuite OS calculates:
- Percentage = (Marks Obtained / Max Marks) × 100
- Grade = Based on the grading scale boundaries
- Grade Point = Assigned value for CGPA
- CGPA = Average of all subject grade points
Advanced: Weighted Grading
For exams with different weightages:
| Component | Weightage |
|---|---|
| Unit Test 1 | 10% |
| Unit Test 2 | 10% |
| Mid-Term | 30% |
| Final Exam | 50% |
- Go to Academics → Exams → Weightage Configuration.
- Set percentages for each exam type.
- The final grade calculates as a weighted average.
Troubleshooting
Q: Grades not appearing on report cards. A: Check that marks are entered for all exams and the grading scale is assigned to the class.
Q: CGPA calculation seems wrong. A: Verify grade point assignments in the grading scale. Check if all subjects are included in the CGPA calculation.
Q: Can I exclude certain subjects from CGPA? A: Yes. Mark subjects as "Non-CGPA" in Settings → Academics → Subjects → [Subject] → Exclude from CGPA.
