Organizing Classes, Sections & Divisions

TL;DR: Create your school's complete class structure — grades, sections (A/B/C), streams (Science/Commerce), and set capacities and class teachers for each.

Creating Classes

  1. Go to Settings → Academics → Classes & Sections.
  2. Click + Add Class.
  3. Enter: class name (e.g., "Class 10" or "Grade 5"), display order.
  4. Click Save.

Bulk Create Classes

Click Quick Setup to create multiple classes at once:

  • Enter starting grade (e.g., 1) and ending grade (e.g., 12).
  • EduSuite OS creates all grades with default settings.

Adding Sections

  1. Click on a class → + Add Section.
  2. Enter section name (e.g., "A", "B", "C").
  3. Set capacity (max students per section).
  4. Assign class teacher (optional at setup).
  5. Repeat for each section.

Setting Up Streams (Senior Secondary)

For classes with academic streams (e.g., Class 11, 12):

  1. Click on the class → + Add Stream.
  2. Create streams: Science, Commerce, Arts/Humanities.
  3. Within each stream, add sections (e.g., Science-A, Commerce-A).
  4. Assign relevant subjects to each stream.

Capacity Management

  • Set max students per section in Settings → Classes → [Section] → Capacity.
  • EduSuite OS warns when a section reaches 90% capacity.
  • Enrollment blocks when a section is full (override available for admins).

Class Teachers

Assign one teacher as the class teacher for each section:

  1. Go to Settings → Classes → [Section].
  2. Select Class Teacher from the dropdown.
  3. Class teachers get special dashboard widgets for their section.

Troubleshooting

Q: I need to rename a class. A: Go to Settings → Classes → [Class] → Edit. Change the name and save. All student records update automatically.

Q: Can I merge two sections? A: Move students from one section to another via Students → Bulk Transfer, then delete the empty section.

Q: Student count shows wrong in a section. A: Check for students with "Inactive" status who are still assigned to the section. Go to Students → Filters → Status → Inactive.
